Taxonomic History / Nomenclature
Neochrysocharis formosa erythraea (Silvestri, 1914) (= Achrysocharella formosa); also referred to as Chrysonotomyia erythraea (Silvestri) in Neuenschwander (1982). The generic synonymy is somewhat complicated, and several generic names have been used for this species over the past 90 years. The classification of Hansson is followed here.

Neochrysocharis formosa has been reared from cultivated and wild olives infested with Bactrocera oleae in South Africa (Neuenschwander 1982). See also the comments by Silvestri (1914) and Monaco (1978).
